Are you in a Spiritual battle? Do you feel like you’re in a battle? Would you even notice? Surely you’d notice if you were under attack… Right? What if it wasn’t a full-scale attack?
Emilio Mola, a Nationalist General during theSpanish Civil War, told a journalist in 1936 that as his four columns of troops approached Madrid, a “fifth column” of supporters inside the city would support him and undermine the Republican government from within. The term fifth column came to be used for any group of people who undermine a larger group—such as a nation or a besieged city—from within, usually in favor of an enemy group or nation.
A FIFTH COLUMN IN YOUR LIFE?
We all know that if we are showing symptoms of sickness then there must be something wrong. Most of us will go to the doctor or just wait till it passes depending on what’s wrong. What are some of the signs or symptoms that make you aware that you are under attack?
Do you feel like the Psalmist who wrote… As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. Psalm 42:1 Or is it more like “this little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine”?
Do you feel like Elijah before the prophets of baal – At the time of sacrifice, the prophet Elijah stepped forward and prayed: “ Lord , the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command. Answer me, Lord , answer me, so these people will know that you, Lord , are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again.” Then the fire of the Lord fell and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones and the soil, and also licked up the water in the trench. 1 Kings 18:36-38
Or more like Elijah afterwards – Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there, while he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness. He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, Lord ,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.” Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep… 1 Kings 19:3-5
Do you find yourself putting things before God? Are you exhausted physically and emotionally? Are you missing out on meeting your spiritual family at church, your prayer time, reading the Bible?
Does everything seem to go wrong at once, problems with your house/car/ family causing you to be stressed out and question Gods blessing over your life? Do you have the feeling of being overwhelmed not knowing which problem to deal with first?
Have you noticed that you don’t pray like you used to? Do you find old sins coming back, you’re slipping back into your old sinful ways?
Are you feeling more comfortable with non-Christians than Christians?Have you been pulling away from Godly relationships? Do you hide from the Pastor if you spot him while you’re out shopping so he can’t ask “… so, how’s your relationship with God going?”
Have you notice any of these MINOR things happening to you? Then maybe you are under attack!
WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT IT?
Read Gods word

…pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.”
2 Timothy 2:19
…for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. 1 John 5:4-5
We need to remember that when our feet are firmly planted on the rock, we can outlast the storm. God does not want us to undergo a spiritual defeat but to overcome it.
